UBC Psychiatry Psychodynamic Supervision
For UBC psychiatric residents only

UBC psychiatric residents are provided with an opportunity to become familiar with the evidence-based practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy with adult patients.

Residents will meet with 1-2 patients weekly for 50-minute sessions. These sessions will be recorded and presented for review during a weekly one-hour supervision session. Residents are asked to complete weekly reading assignments in preparation for supervision.

Residents have the option of working through either of the following two reading curricula:

a) Psychodynamic Reading Curriculum (Standard): The emphasis of this curriculum are classical readings in contemporary object relations theory and practice.

b) Psychodynmaic Reading Curriculum (Sociopolitical): The emphasis in this curriculum are essential readings in contemporary object relations theory and practice with a particular emphasis on sociopolitical, cultural, and critical perspectives.

Residents will have an opportunity to participate in quarterly trainings with the Western Branch of the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society in Vancouver.

UBC Psychology Psychodynamic Practicum
For UBC doctoral psychology students only

This practicum provides an opportunity to become familiar with the evidence-based practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy with adult patients.

Students will meet with 1-2 patients weekly for 50-minute sessions at the UBC Psychology Clinic. These sessions will be recorded and presented for review during a weekly one-hour supervision session.

Weekly readings are assigned from a carefully developed Psychodynamic Reading Curriculum, which emphasizes both essential contemporary object relations theory readings as well as sociopolitical, cultural, and critical perspectives of psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Students will have an opportunity to participate in quarterly trainings with the Western Branch of the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society in Vancouver.

This practicum will be offered from September to June and is suitable for more senior students with prior psychotherapy experience and preferably some previous knowledge of psychodynamic theory.
